BBC iPlayer Not Working On Xbox 360

If you have logged into your Xbox 360 console intending to watch BBC iPlayer and can’t find it, you will be disappointed to know that this is no longer supported on the device so you will not be able to stream the BBC programmes through the device. This change came into effect 27/03/19 meaning that after this date iPlayer is not longer supported on Xbox 360.

This means that when you go into your applications on your device the BBC iPlayer application will no longer be there. Add this to the fact that ITV Hub was never supported by the device, you may want to consider a different device to stream video from.

Why Is iPlayer Not Working On Xbox 360?

The reason this has happened is because and time passes by and there are changes to technology. As many Xbox users have no emigrated to the Xbox One console the BBC have said that:

“It’s no longer possible to maintain a bespoke version on BBC iPlayer for a very small percentage of users.”

Although this is disappointing as I was personally one of the people that was using the service with the Xbox connected to many of my bedroom TV’s, you can understand the logic here with iPlayer no being available on many different devices. Users of other equipment such as the Wii early Freesat boxes and many Smart TV’s will no this feeling all to well and I guess it’s just a price we pay for progress.

Will iPlayer Still Work on Xbox One?

You will still be able to receive BBC iPlayer on the Xbox One console I you have one of these and if you don’t if may be time to consider an upgrade to your Xbox 360 console. As mentioned above the Xbox One will also support ITV Hub as well as 4OD and Demand 5. The Xbox One will also allow you to play Bluray discs on the device whereas the 360 doesn’t.

Other Ways of Receiving BBC iPlayer

If you don’t really play computer games but use your console as more of an all in one device that allows to you stream video and play DVD’s etc, if may be a bit of overkill to go and replace your Xbox 360 with an Xbox One or the latest Playstation etc. if all you wanted to do was stream iPlayer. BBC iPlayer is no supported on so many different platforms and a few of these include Smart TV’s, Smart TV sticks like Chromecast & Amazon Firestick, Compatible TV receivers like Sky, Freesat and Freeview boxes and many more. If you do not have a Smart TV or other way or streaming TV from the internet probably the easiest way to get around this would be to just connect a Smart TV stick.
